STARS was founded in 1973 by a group of determined parents who realized there were few opportunities for their children who had cognitive and developmental disabilities. Once these young people graduated from high school and the bus stopped coming, there were scant opportunities and inadequate resources. These parents wanted what all parents want for their children - growth, opportunity and the ability to integrate and make a difference in the community. STARS was born with a modest city grant and a trailer for its headquarters. Today, STARS is an important part of our city's life and has grown substantially over the course of its 43 years. Its mission remains the same: To improve the lives of people with cognitive and developmental disabilities. Please donate to support!
