Position Title: Human Resources Director

Job Summary and Purpose
The human resources director is part of the senior leadership team and is responsible for overseeing MIM’s human resource function including recruitment, employee relations, payroll, benefit administration, compliance, training, compensation, and performance management. As a strategic partner, the HR Director balances his/her role as an effective advocate for the museum and its mission, and the MIM team.
Primary Responsibilities
Talent Management
- Oversee the recruitment process to ensure effective talent acquisition and retention.
- Develop and implement strategies to attract and retain high-quality candidates.
- Develop and implement team member development and training programs to enhance skills and career growth.
- Create and revise position descriptions, screen applicants, conduct interviews, administer assessments and reference checks as needed.
Compensation and Benefits Administration
- Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy.
- Provides current and prospective team members with information about compensation and benefits.
- Collaborates with third party administrators for all benefit plans
Human Capital Management
- Provide leadership and guidance on HR-related matters including training managers on organizational policies such as equal employment opportunity and sexual harassment
- Counsels and guides managers on team member relations and issues
- Determines training needs, conducts management training sessions and makes recommendations for outside training as needed
- Develops and maintains record-keeping systems and procedures for reporting HR data
- Assists the finance department with payroll processing and approve bi-weekly payroll
- Maintains and updates team member handbook
- Creates and maintains annual HR department budget
- Consults with outside counsel to ensure legal compliance of the organization as needed
- Presents human resources departmental update at quarterly board meetings
- Administers bi-annual performance appraisal process
- Manages HR Administrator (one direct report)
Job Requirements
- This is a full-time position working on-site at MIM.
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related field required • Minimum of 10 years of experience as an HR in a management role.
- Ability to problem-solve, work independently, and excel in a high-performing culture.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Desired Qualifications
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP or PHR designation
- Advanced degree in Human Resources Management
- Proficiency in ADP
- Experience working in the nonprofit industry
- Love for world music and musical instruments is a plus!
